What are the ways that the Disappearing Measure feature can be used? What are its applications and purposes? For what real-time sight reading situations would it be most useful?

Hi Steven,
There's actually two ways you can use the Disappearing Measures feature. You can choose to have the measures disappear after you play them or you can choose to have them disappear before you play them. You can set your preference for how the measures disappear on the 'Preferences' tab on your Dashboard.
Disappearing Measures - After
Practicing with the measures disappearing after you have played them encourages you to not look back at mistakes and keep going no matter what. This is a very important skill to develop for sight reading.
Disappearing Measures - Before
This is one of my most favorite features of the site. Having the measures disappear before you play them teaches the important skill of reading ahead in the music. All great sight readers look ahead in the music and quickly memorize the next measure or few measures. They rarely are looking at the notes in the measure that they are playing. When you practice with this feature enabled, the measure will disappear as soon as you are supposed to play it forcing you to look ahead at the next measure and memorize it while playing the measure that just disappeared. It's a really powerful way to learn to sight read!
As far as real-time applications, while measures will never disappear from a 'real' piece of music, practicing with this feature enabled teaches important skills that are necessary to be a good sight reader.
